A LATE 20TH C. CARVED AND PAINTED 71-INCH TOTEM POLEThe one-piece coniferous wood totem attributable to Tlingit or Haida is exceptionally well carved in high relief and embellished with warm vegetal colors depicting watchman atop bears with pronounced curled claws, small masks, dogs and or wolves, etcetera; all displaying handsome chiseled and beveled wood surface overall. There are no maker's marks or signatures.Measures 71 x 7.75 x 8.25 inches.Very good condition, noting minor wear and that the base block has cradled or warped with time, requiring that the sculpture's base be shimmed in order to stand straight. Otherwise very good , no damage or repair.
