One of 1,634 examples produced1962 BMW 494cc R50SFrame no. 564849Engine no. 564849
In the early 1950s, BMW concentrated on refining what were essentially pre-war designs, but by 1955 was ready with a brace of new machines, the R50 and R69. Of (nominally) 500cc and 600cc respectively, the newcomers inherited the updated flat-twin engine introduced on the R51/3 a few years previously, but deployed this in all-new cycle parts, the most notable departures from preceding practice being the Earles-type leading-link front fork and swinging-arm rear suspension enclosing the drive-shaft in the right leg - developments first seen on the works racers. Luxury tourers that cost as much as a small family car, the R50 and R69 sold to discerning enthusiasts to whom expense mattered little when set against the excellence of BMW engineering.
In 1960 the flat-twins range was revised as the ‘/2’, most of the changes being inside the engine, which received a strengthened crankcase and crankshaft, hard-chromed piston rings, improved internal ventilation, new cam followers and a stronger clutch assembly. The new ‘/2’ models were shown for the first time at the Nurburgring circuit in August 1960. The R69 disappeared from the range at this time, its place being taken by a brace of new sports models: the R50S and R69S. The larger of these, the R69S, produced 42bhp and was good for a top speed of around 110mph, while the 35bhp R50S did not lag that far behind with a maximum of around 100mph. Produced between 1960 and 1962 only, during which time 1,634 examples were completed, the R50S is one of the rarer post-war BMW twins and highly sought after by BMW collectors.
Supplied new in the USA and acquired by the current owner in 2004, this superb R50S is offered fresh from a complete, ‘frame up’, no-expense-spared restoration carried out by BMW Motorcycles of Daytona. The crankshaft and ’cases were rebuilt by Ed Korn of Memphis Motor Works, while other noteworthy features include factory-correct paintwork, Schorsch Meier gas tank and proper lightweight alloy wheel rims. The machine has covered only five miles since completion in October 2007 and comes with all relevant restoration invoices, tool kit and Certificate of Title.

1971 Mercedes Benz 300 SEL 6.3 Sedan VIN# 10901812005087 Mileage: 153,250
In the late 60's, this car was called, quite rightly, "The Executive Road Racer." Of only 6500 units produced between 1968 and 1971, this example is one of 670 produced in 1971. This is a rare crossbreed of a car. An enterprising Mercedes Engineer in 1967, combined the luxury and refinement of the 300 series, and the brute power from the 600 series limousines. This combination gave the car a top speed of 137 m.p.h and 0-60 m.p.h. times in 6.5 seconds. Very fast by any standards, especially in a car that weighs 3800 lbs. It is equipped with a 6.3 liter V8 engine that produced around 300 h.p.
It is also equipped with a 4 speed automatic transmission.
This example is currently with its 4th owner. Originally sold to a Wisconsin businessman who wintered in Florida, which explains the very rare color combination, a light Ivory color. The second owner had some work done by Bert Reimschessel, a legendary Mercedes Benz mechanic. It was also repainted, and competed successfully in the MBCA Concours d' Elegance in the early 80's. The third owner resided in Denver, and used the car for fun and club events on the west coast. He was the editor of The Star for 25 years. It was maintained by Heinz Nickel, another 6.3 expert. This owner also spared no expense maintaining it, and was featured in The Star. It received a factory fix for the high altitude hot starts, new valve job, motor mounts, fuel injection pump was rebuilt by Pacific Fuel Injection, and a new airbag for a write up of the replacement. When Mr. Nickel passed away, a new mechanic was enlisted, Stu Ritter, who later became the technical editor for The Star. It received new exhaust, new window channels and door seals, and a set of original and correct 215/70VR14 Michelin XWX tires. The 4th and current owner, received the car with 132,000 miles in 2002. With understanding owners and highly skilled mechanics, this car is in much better condition than most garage queens with low miles.

In 1998, this car was flown to Hawaii by Mercedes Benz, to be presented alongside the new S Class Sedans for the US market. In 2003, it was used again by Mercedes Benz to introduce the E55 AMG in Virginia.

SET OF ALAIN DOUILLARD STEEL FIRE TOOLS AND A STAND, FRENCHUnmarked. Including a shovel and tongs.
37 x 10 1/2 x 8 1/2 in.
Note: Alain Douillard (1929-2017) received his classical training in sculpture at the Beaux-Arts de Nantes. This particular training allowed him access to his earliest work in churches, renovating religious sculptures that deeply influenced his sculptural forms. in 1952, Douillard's work departed from religious figures and adopted a more abstract and geometric aesthetic. In 1965, he began collecting car parts and rusty pieces of scrap metal that he cut, bound and assembled together to create his totem like sculptures. During this period, he founded the group LOVE with fellow sculptors: Joel Dabin, Paul Dauce and Albert Deman. In 1978, on the heels of this phase and fascination with the use of scrap metal, Douillard created his forms using one central formal piece and building movement around this fixed element. This technique allowed him to bring movement and dimensions to his forms by understanding the substance of the shape prior to creating its limbs. In 1999, Douillard's evolution led him back to figurative forms and he reintroduced animal and organic motifs to his work. Douillard created many monumental public sculptures in France: Mur-Fountaine, Angers; Monument aux Morts, Place du Champs de Foire, Coes, Parc du Roy d'Espagne, Marseille.Â
Provenance: Magen H. Gallery, NY., June 16, 2009.
