Jacob Fry Walnut Chippendale Tall Clock, Woodstock VA, documented on p. 282 -285 in Early Virginia Clockmakers and Silversmiths, James Biser Whisker and John R. Coe, a copy included. Broken scroll bonnet with acorn finials and carved rosettes, rosette below the center plinth, the arched door with H-hinges, with painted steel dial signed Jacob Fry Woodstock, the waist with an arched overlapping door flanked by inset quarter columns raised on a base with straight bracket feet, with cast iron weights and original pendulum, 102 1/2"H, from the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Shenandoah Valley Clocks by Phillip Whitman matches signature on another Fry clock, the book is included in the purchase of clock, 10 years in a private collection, the dial is in excellent condition, the brass face hinges appear to be original, the surface is old but not the first. The lower right and left side of the molding on the bonnet have losses, there is separation in the dovetails on top of the bonnet, see photos, the center plinth is possibly replaced, there is a 5” horizontal age split in face board below arch, the upper right corner of the mask has been replaced, see interior photo, the finials are old/appropriate, (1) has split, see photo, cannot say If they are original, rosettes appear original, there is a vertical age split in the face of the lower part of the case, the feet are appropriate old replacements.

A FEDERAL CHERRY CASE MOON PHASE TALL CLOCKThe early 19th century American tall case clock with swan neck split pediment crest capped in carved rosettes between the petite cherry finials over the arched door with original glass flanked by four turned columns on the hood atop the slender pendulum box with a band of crotch grain veneer over the matching veneered door between canted corners above the outset base having a raised chamfered panel, all set on four petite turned legs.The unsigned brass plate time and strike movement is fronted by a sheet iron dial with terrestrial globes and hand painted moon phase over hand painted floral spandrels bracketing the circular chapter ring of Roman numerals divided by 31 day markers for the sweep calendar hand.Measures 95 x 10.75 x 20 inches.Very good intact running condition at the time of removal from the Stewart's home. The movement does not chime, however. We cannot guarantee the running or timekeeping condition of timepieces once removed from the auction premises.The case is in very good condition, apparently all original, original hands, the dial in excellent condition and free from damage, loss or inpainting, original back and bottom board. There is no upper back board.Provenance: The estate of Bob and Emma Stewart, Warrensburg, Missouri.

RARE 18TH C. ENGLISH CHINOISERIE TALL CLOCK Chippendale Chinoiserie Tall Clock in black lacquer with overall decoration in maki gold lacquer of figures, landscapes and buildings; the case having a complex tired bonnet capped by a mansard crown, reticulation above and on the sides backed by red cloth. The brass works are 30-hour time and strike with the original iron weights, pendulum, winding crank. The dial is in brass with a silver ring with black roman numerals, the spandrels in matching maki lacquer figural decoration. The door has a bronze cupid mounting over a transparent glass lens, the lower cabinet rests on massive carved lions paw feet. 92" tall overall (7'-7"), 12" x 22 1/2" on the floor. Alligatoring to the lacquer. Not observed running.
