A good 19th century Russian 84 zolotnik silver and silver gilt canteen of fancy pattern cutlery for eighteen comprising one hundred and six items with engraved monogram beneath a coronet assay master possibly Viktor Savinsky masters Nichols & Plinke and PK Moscow 1868 presented in a Gravil Grachev brass mounted two handled oak canteen 174 oz. Estimate ?6 000-7 000 18 table knives 18 table forks 18 table spoons 18 teaspoons 18 coffee spoons 12 condiment ladles 2 straining spoons pair of tongs and a cream ladle. All pieces are double struck. Table forks- 14 of the forks have wear to the tines. 6 of the forks have at least 1 tine which is slightly bent. Some of the gilding has worn away from the raised parts of the decoration. Condition otherwise is good. Marks clear. Teaspoons- Now completely silver although there is some evidence to suggest they may have been gilded. 11 of the spoon tips are showing signs of minor wear otherwise the overall condition is good. Marks claer bar 3 teaspoons of which the marks are now illegible. Table knives- There is a small ding to the edge of one of the knife blades and again there is some wear to the gilding on the raised decoration on the handles. Overall condition is otherwise good. Marks clear. The tongs have been repaired at the top section around the curve (visible patch and solder). Marks clear. The two strainers are in good order with clear marks. There is an old good professional repair to the shaft of the cream ladle. Marks clear. Coffee spoons- Two of the spoon shafts are slightly mishapen and there is a small dent to the tip of one other spoon. Overall condition is otherwise good. Marks clear. Table spoons- Some very minor wear to the tips of 5 of the spoons andagain some wear to the gilding on the raised part of the decoration otherwise the overall condition is good. Marks clear. The box is in relatively good order condusive with age and use however the estucheon is loose and the lid is in two sections(uniform split). Includes (3) Russian gilt silver mounted carved stone knives with leaf decoration to handles - each blade is stamped, "84" with a St Petersburg city stamp, an assay master mark of "AC/1892", and an unidentified maker's mark. Accompanied by a Russian gilt silver mounted carved stone knife - blade is stamped, "84" with a city stamp of St Petersburg, an assay master mark - possibly representing Ivan Vonifatiyevich Yevstigneyev 1889, and an unidentified maker's mark of "KP". Total approx. weight of all knives is 377.9 grams (gross). From a Hollis, NY estate. Dimensions: (3) matched knives measure approx. 9" in length; single knife measures approx. 7.75" in length. Condition: Good, with light surface scratches and minor dings/dents. No definitive statement is being made as to whether the stone handles are natural, synthetic or treated.
