Greene initially established himself in high fashion photography in the 1940s and 1950s. His fashion shots appeared in Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue. He then turned to portraits of celebrities, such as Elizabeth Taylor, Frank Sinatra, Audrey Hepburn, and others. Greene collaborated with Marilyn Monroe on 53 photo sessions and various movie productions. Greene’s photograph for a sitting with Marilyn Monroe in a ballet tutu in 1954 was chosen by Time Life as one of the most popular images of the 20th century.
