Marshall Clayton, Del., Painted in 1936, From our Farm looking at St. Josephs Industrial School", 13-1/2" x 19-1/2". Presented in a polychromed wooden frame. A native of Maryland, Marshall became a highly regarded Impressionist landscapist. He studied at the Maryland Institute, College of Art and at the Julian Academy in Paris. Exhibitions of his work included one-man shows at the Peabody Institute in 1918, Baltimore Museum of Art in 1932 and Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. Around 1918 he had become a minister, taking charge of congregations in Maryland and in his later years, Delaware. In 1957, a retrospective exhibition of his work was held at the Maryland Historical Society and his art is in the permanent collections of the Baltimore Museum of Art.
