Biography (Courtesy of Ask Art and Ron Goulart, The Encyclopedia of American Comics): Dik Browne was an illustration artist and cartoonist who drew the award winning "Hi and Lois" comic strip. He was also known for drawing the Birdseye bird, the Chiquita Banana, and the Campbell Kids. In 1973, Browne created "Hagar the Horrible," a daily and Sunday gag strip about a robust, childlike barbarian with all the problems of a henpecked suburbanite. The National Cartoonists Society awarded him a Reuben Award for Hagar later that year, and Browne won three more Best-Humor Strip awards in 1977, 1984, and 1986.
