The Fulton Fire Insurance Company was incorporated in New York City on April 2, 1819. The company advertised frequently in both the New York Evening Post and the Kinderhook Herald during the 1820s, promoting their insurance "against loss or damage by fire, dwelling houses, warehouses, and buildings in general; also, on merchandize [sic], household furniture, and other personal property, on terms as favorable as any similar institution in this city. This company is incorporated solely for the purpose of insuring against losses by fire, with a capital stock of 500,000 dollars." (New York Evening Post, April 17, 1819).
