A MEISSEN POLYCHROME ENAMELED MYTHOLOGICAL FIGURAL GROU...A MEISSEN POLYCHROME ENAMELED MYTHOLOGICAL FIGURAL GROUP, AFTER THE MODEL BY MICHEL VICTOR ACIER (ACTIVE 1775-1784), BLUE CROSSED SWORDS MARKS, INCISED AND IMPRESSED NUMBERS, LATE 19TH CENTURY, modeled as the Phrygian goddess Cybele wearing a crenelated crown and holding a fruit filled cornucopia while seated on a recumbent lion, amidst putti with blossoming foliage and harvest attributes, on floral encrusted stylized groundwork, reversing to underside centering underglaze blue crossed swords marks and incised, "D83," above impressed numbers, "173." NOTE: Michel Victor Acier was the Artistic Director for Meissen from 1775-1784 and, with assistance by Johann Carl Schonheit, was responsible for the original model on which this Cybele group is based.
