LARGE SCALE MODEL OF R.M.S. EMPRESSLARGE SCALE MODEL OF R.M.S. EMPRESS OF BRITAINA most unique large scale wooden model of 'R.M.S. EMPRESS OF BRITAIN', the superstructure is lit from within (functioning), rigged & detailed with a compliment of 15 adjustable lifeboats, a float plane, and the upper deck replete with deck chairs, badminton nets, etc. Ship dimensions, 62" long x 9" wide x 30" high. Crate dimensions, 39" high x 67" long x 15" wide. Condition noted, surface wear, minor losses, one propeller is detached but remains intact. Some lifeboats requiring minor restoration. Note: The R.M.S. Empress of Britain was completed in 1931, and was the largest ship in the Canadian Pacific fleet, as well as the most luxurious & fastest transatlantic passenger ship sailing at that time between Canada & Great Britain. She was the largest liner sunk by a German U-Boat on October 28th, 1940 off the coast of Northern Ireland, and is recorded as the largest liner lost during World War II. Provenance: Based on family account, this model was made by an inmate at St. Vincent de Paul Penitentiary in Quebec, and acquired at the inmate hobby craft center by their grandfather who was then the head of the Remission Branch Service for the Canadian Federal Government (later known as Correctional Services of Canada) thence by descent to their father in 1942. Retains its original shipping crate bearing stenciled lettering and remnants of paper handling labels.

Hall (1885-1972) of a camp scene with one man cooking on the fire while the other does some patching on a birchbark canoe. Signed T.H. Hall. Tom Hall emigrated from England in 1907 and became a well-known illustrator producing artwork for posters, calendars and magazine covers. He was also commissioned by the Dominion Cartridge Company (owned by C-I-L) where his artwork was the basis of numerous posters and calendars depicting Canadian wildlife and Canadian hunters. In the 1930s Tom Hall was one of the key artists for Canadian Pacific poster designs with his 1938 grizzly poster for CP winning him the Transit Advertisers award for finest poster in the travel division. Throughout the 1930s, 40s and early 1950s his artwork was a mainstay for Rod & Gun in Canada magazine. Dimensions, 23" x 37". FRANCAIS: Grande huile sur toile non encadrée de Tom H. Hall (1885-1972). KATHLEEN WHEELER HUNT FIGUREKathleenKATHLEEN WHEELER HUNT FIGUREKathleen Wheeler hunt figure, glazed over soft paste porcelain; signed to back; measures approximately 10" tall, 3-1/2" wide, and 9-3/4" deep; in fair overall condition with some repairs throughout. A sculptor, Kathleen Crump was known for life-size portraits of horse-race winners and also for portrait busts of prominent persons such as Clarence Darrow, Samuel Gompers and Queen Elizabeth II of England. When the monarch visited America in 1954, one of her official gifts was a portrait of herself by Kathleen Crump. During her lifetime, Crump lived in Canada, 1910; Illinois and Wisconsin, 1914-25; Washington, DC, 1926; and Chevy Chase, Maryland. As a young woman in Canada, she lived on a ranch, and made sketches and models of horses. One of these was exhibited at the Royal Academy in London, and purchased by King George V. She was later commissioned to sculpt and paint the winners of the Kentucky Derby, which are in the collection at the Churchill Downs. She attended the Slade Art School in London. Memberships included the Society Washington Artists, Philadelphia Allied Artists of America, and the Washington Art Club. Exhibitions included the Royal Academy, London; Society of Washington Artists; Art Institute of Chicago; Paris Salon; Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts annual, 1917, 1920-23; and Greater Washington Independent Exhibition, 1935. Collections include Harvey's Museum, St. John's Wood, London; Hackley Art Gallery, Muskegon, MI; Ackermann Gallery, New York; W. Russell Button, Chicago; Purvell Gallery, Baltimore, Maryland; Canadian Pacific Railroad, London; Churchill Downs in Lexington, Kentucky.
