Condition:
very good overall condition, lock and escutcheon replaced, replaced interior dividers, some sun fading, original bed moldings with some later nails, two modern box supports added to frame, patch and repair at one front toe, scattered very minor pest damage, stains to top, two small strips, bottom board possibly replaced (strip patches at two edges, some old plugged holes)

CLASSICAL CARVED MAHOGANY SIDEBOARD, PURPORTEDLY SIGNED CALEB C. BURROUGHS, JANUARY 24, 1820The top fitted with a back splash, over two frieze drawers above two short drawers and a deep bottle drawer flanked by a pair of paneled doors each enclosing one shelf and flanked by spiral-twist columnar supports, raised on acanthus carved paw feet. Purportedly signed in red ink on underside of top board.
4 ft. 4 3/4 in. x 5 ft. x 24 in.
Note: Caleb Carter Burroughs (1799-1885) was a cabinet-maker and undertaker in Madison, New Jersey. He was apprenticed at age sixteen for five years and having learned his trade he established his successful business in Madison. This sideboard may well have been the culmination of his apprenticeship.

Condition
Age cracks on the top and side panels with replaced moldings along the edge. Minor veneer replacements and losses on the drawers. Handles replaced. In good restored condition, structurally sound, nicely carved. Not withstanding this report or any discussion concerning condition of a lot, all lots are offered and sold "as is" in accordance with our conditions of sale.

1st item: Older refinish, burn mark on top edge, left front leg with some wear/abrasion, back of drawer appears to be late 19th century replacement. 2nd item: Some slight wear to jacket, minute losses to corner. Some interior toning and spotting to pages.

Condition:
Some yellowing of paper, crease marks as issued, toning, apparent mounting repairs to small holes and tears, some stains, fading of hand coloring, but overall in good condition, wear commensurate with age and use.
