The book that accompanies the painting is "The Age of Grandeur And A Woman Who Lived It: Artist Evelyn Metzger". It is a hard bound book that covers both her social life and her artistic appreciation and contributions, examining her formal studies of art history at Vassar, her flexibility and travels, and her portraits. Artwork measures approximately 48" x 32" unframed and the book measures approximately 11-15/16" x 9-1/2"; painting in Good overall condition and book in Very Good condition. Evelyn Metzger (1911-2007) was a painter of a variety of subjects in a variety of styles including realism, impressionism, fauvism, and cubism. In 1950, she had a major exhibition in Argentina and then exhibited in France, Mexico and the United States. Her work is in the Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington D.C.

JOSEPHINE BAKER COMPOSITE ADVERTISING SCULPTUREA large and very rare hand painted composite figural advertising display of Josephine Baker in her legendary and scandalous banana skirt, ca. 1930s. The international sensation made its debut in the 1927 Follies Bergere show titled “Un Vent de Folie†and became Baker’s signature costume. Likely French in manufacture, this is an antique and original burlesque era surviving advertising document. Few were manufactured and even fewer have survived.
Height: 19 in x width: 11 1/4 in x depth: 6 1/4 in.
Condition:
The sculpture is in generally good condition; no major losses, cracks, or dents. Throughout the piece, there is wear and there are spots that lost the original paint and repaired, particularly along the legs. To the left knee, there is an area with a residue that is only visible under UV light. Along the backside of the left thigh, there is a residue. Dust collected to the surface, particularly to the recessed area. There are minute red accretions to the left hand. Wear throughout the base; there are some paint losses along the edge. Along the underside, there is wear throughout, consistent with its age and use.
