Note: Britannia standard silver is 95.84% fine silver. An 1697 Act of Parliament replaced the Sterling standard with the Britannia standard. This act was reversed on June 1, 1720 and Britain reverted to the Sterling Standard. The identifying hallmarks for the Britannia standard are the ''lion head erased', and the ''Britannia''. During the period of the compulsory Britannia standard for silver, maker's marks composed of the first two letters of the maker's surname were required.
