FLOW BLUE TRANSFERWARE PLATESA lot of 3 plates: a flow blue transferware plate with small central image of sail / steam ship and deep flow blue border. Marked on the underside "ACADIA". Circa 1850. Some wear of the blue colour around the edges of the plate but not visible from the front view. Otherwise very good condition. 10.5" diameter. The second, a flow blue transferware plate with a central image of Table Rock, Niagara Falls. The border adorned with various sea shells. The underside with a blue mark: TABLE ROCK, NIAGARA and the impressed mark of the maker: BURSLEM. Excellent condition. The third, a flow blue transferware plate marked on the underside "FALL OF MONTMORENCI NEAR QUEBEC". Impressed maker's mark below the title. Excellent condition. Diameter, 9".

SS RUCKINGE SHIPBUILDERS MODELDESCRIPTION: A BUILDER'S MODEL FOR THE STEAM SHIPS RUCKINGE & OTTINGE, BUILT BY WILLIAM GRAY & CO LTD FOR CONSTANTS (SOUTH WALES) LTD, 1939  the laminated and carved hull with white lined decks and hatches, lacquered wood bridge superstructure and replete with a combination of gilt and painted fittings, mounted on four turned wooden columns on moulded display base within original glazed mahogany case with ivorine builder's plate. These general purpose cargo ships displaced 2869 tons when launched in November 1939. The Ruckinge didn't last long and was carrying food and general cargo between Lisbon and Oban when torpedoed by U108 on 19th December 1941 with the loss of six crew; the Ottinge survived the War to have a relatively normal career - was renamed Sofia (1955) and then Dias (1965). On 12th March 1967 she was in transit between Bremen and Civitavecchia with steel products when she caught fire sixty miles off Cape St. Vincent, exploded and sank with no loss of life.
