Gustave Frederic Michel (French,Gustave Frederic Michel (French, 1851-1924) A terra cotta bust with brown pigment finish, mounted on a walnut base, with the artist's initials incised into the back, approx. 15-3/4"H x 12"W x 6"D. The image is very similar to the bronze "La Pensee" by the same artist. It has a Cleveland Museum of Art Registrar's tag on verso, and a partial nameplate on the front of the base. This is most likely a preliminary piece where the artist planned his composition later altered and cast in bronze.
