A Chinese Famille Rose Canton EnamelA Chinese Famille Rose Canton Enamel Dish, ca. 18th Century Delicately embellished on the interior with a finger citron and peaches amid flowering branches and leaves with a butterfly above, encircled with a yellow background foliate border, a plum background border with bats and clouds and a blue on white foliate border, the rim and the bottom of the foot in gilt. Equally delicately painted, the outside has a wide yellow background border encircling a blue on white and then a rose on white border. The underside has as bright yellow speckled background and a circular design containing a dragon. Overall it measures approx. 6-1/2"D x 1-7/8"H.

A Fine Chinese Famille Rose "CantonA Fine Chinese Famille Rose "Canton Enamel" Charger probably Qianlong Period (1736-1795) the well finely enameled with a large roundel enclosing noble figures and their attendants enjoying leisurely pursuits on an elegant cliff-side garden terrace overlooking a mountainous shoreline in the distance the cavetto with four oval panels enclosing chilong dragons reserved on a yellow ground with dense trailing vine decoration the exterior sides and base further decorated with chilong dragons height 2 1/4 in. diameter 17 1/8 in. Note: The Canton Enamel process begins with a metal object usually copper which is then covered with enamel (often white) fired and then painted much in the same way a porcelain object would be. Originally developed in Limoges France this highly sought-after enameling technique was introduced into China through French missionaries during the 18th century.
