Winchester Model 1892 . 38 WCF Rifle c. 1896: This lot features a great example of a Winchester Model 1892 lever action rifle chambered in 38 W. C. F. (Winchester Center Fire) caliber. This rifle was manufactured in 1896. The rifle features a 24" round barrel, wonderful straight grain walnut stocks, blue'd finish, and fixed sights. The Winchester Model 1892 was a lever-action repeating rifle designed by John Browning as a smaller, lighter version of his large-frame Model 1886, which replaced the Model 1873 as the company's lever-action for pistol-caliber rounds. When asked by Winchester to design an improved lever action to compete with a recent Marlin offering, John Browning said he would have the prototype completed in under a month or it would be free. Within 2 weeks, Browning had a functioning prototype of the 92. Calibers for the rifle vary and some are custom-chambered. The original rounds were the . 32-20, . 38-40, and . 44-40 Winchester centerfire rounds, followed in 1895 by the new . 25-20. This rifle is in good condition, with some handling and wear from use. The top of the barrel is marked, "Manufactured by the Winchester Repeating Arms Co. New Haven, Conn. U. S. A. - 38 W. C. F. " The barrel and frame show the correct Winchester proof marks. The rifle tang is marked, "Model 1892 - Winchester - Pat. Oct. 14. 1884". Serial Number: 62463. This firearm qualifies as an Antique and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.

Pair Massachusetts late Federal carved card tables Boston area circa 1820 shaped rectangular top conforming to elliptic and hollowfront frieze with brass trim on bottom edge resting on acanthus-carved ring-turned and twist-reeded legs terminating in brass cups and casters. H29 1/8'' W37 3/4'' D17 5/8'' (2pcs) Provenance: Maryland private collection. Literature: The form of these tables is described in Benjamin Hewitt Pat Kane and Gerald Ward: THE WORK OF MANY HANDS CARD TABLES IN FEDERAL AMERICA 1790-1820 (Yale: 1982) as square with elliptic and hollow front half-elliptic and hollow ends and ovolo corners. Although clearly grounded in earlier and lighter Federal-era models this pair of tables assumes the new bolder presentation of the form based on Classical examples. Similar tables with more extensive decoration: heavily carved acanthus-leaf decoration above reeded or rope-turned legs brass inlays and carved skirt decoration originated in the Salem Massachusetts area and are associated with the shop of Samuel McIntire. The carved acanthus turret corners the applied brass decoration and the rope-turned legs seen here reflect the extent of McIntire's influence. Other Notes: A brass plaque affixed to the tables indicate that they were made for Lewis Whiting Fisher (1792-1827) and Nancy Fisher (1800-1881) of Wrentham Massachusetts about 30 miles southwest of Boston. Both the Whiting and Fisher families were prominent and prolific in the city. Lewis Whiting Fisher the son of Lewis and Abigail Whiting Fisher graduated from Brown University in 1816 and studied law with the Honorable Josiah H. Fiske of Wrentham the same office where renowned educational reformer Horace Mann began his apprenticeship in 1819. He opened his own office in Wrentham in 1820 the year he married Nancy Fisher and it is likely this pair of tables was made the same year. He lived in Wrentham until his death in 1827. The couple had four children: Lewis (1821-1881) Henry (1822-1870) Elizabeth (b. 1825) and George Park Fisher (1827-1909) who attended Brown and Yale where he became a professor of theology and wrote many texts including History of the Christian Doctrine still today considered to be an iconic work of Christian theology. Ivan Kozlov (B. 1937) "Garganey" W/C: Ivan Kozlov (Russian, B. 1937) "Garganey" Signed and dated ('92) lower right. Original Watercolor painting on Paper. . . Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. . This painting is the original which was published on a First Day Cover for a Russia Duck stamp issued July 1, 1992. . . The Garganey is indigenous to northern Eurasia but may extend its range as far west as Germany. Closely related to the Blue-winged Teal and roughly its same size, this duck is commonly found in still or slow-running waters which are surrounded by lush vegetation. While not as spectacularly colored as some other species of duck, both sexes of Garganey still present attractive pictures. The drake's unique plumage includes a purple-brown head with distinctive white "eyebrows, " a black breast and speckled, brown-to-buff lower back and tail. The hen resembles female North American teals, but it too has distinguishing eye marks -- contrasting light and dark patterns which surround the eye and extend to the back of the head. A lighter spot at the base of the bill accentuates both cheeks. The female's loud quack is teal-like, but the male's voice is confined to low, single-noted cackles. The Garganey's breeding ground stretches from Iceland to norther Asia. North Central Africa is its wintering site. During spring and fall migrations, the waterbird can be found on the western Aleutian Islands, and only casually occurs on the North American continent. Its breeding season commences in early spring and from May to June, the female lays eight to 11 eggs. Incubation lasts approximately 23 days. The newly hatched young, once dry, follow their mother to water for their first swim. . . Image Size: 13. 75 x 11. 75 in. . Overall Size: 18. 25 x 15. 5 in. . Unframed. . Lot of 2 Polished & Fossilized Megalodon Teeth: **Originally Listed At $500**. . Ancient Seas, Middle Miocene to end of Pliocene eras, ca. 28 to 1. 5 million years ago. A fine pair of fossilized teeth from the prehistoric megalodon shark. The first tooth is nearly all jet black with a matte root that has stable fissures and crevices that formed during the fossilization process. The enamel has been polished to a glassy surface and is very reflective. The other tooth is a much lighter hue, with a matte brown root, and a polished enamel with a creamy beige edge, and the center reveals the darker layers beneath the enamel. Both teeth are beautiful, and the contrasting colors are due to the different minerals present in the sediment as the teeth fossilize. Megalodons were among the largest predators the ocean ever saw, but their teeth are the only parts that have survived since their cartilage bodies could not fossilize. Size (black tooth): 4. 31" L x 3. 25" W (10. 9 cm x 8. 3 cm); (brown tooth): 4. 25" L x 3" W (10. 8 cm x 7. 6 cm) . . Provenance: ex-Savannah, Georgia, USA collection. . 19th C. Mexican Santo - St. Anthony of Padua w/ Christ: New World, Spanish Colonial style, Mexico, ca. early 19th century CE. A large wooden santo with a kind face, depicting St. Anthony of Padua. Hand-carved, and with glass eyes, the saint appears to be attentive to the viewer. In one hand, he holds a book with the Christ Child seated atop it; in the other he holds a repousse silver flag - a slightly different depiction than we normally see for St. Anthony, who often holds a lily stalk representing his purity. He stands atop a tall, tiered wooden pedestal. He has a repousse silver halo and Christ has an ornate tin crown. The Christ figure appears to be newer than the saint, but still 19th century. Size: 7. 5" L x 8. 25" W x 28. 25" H (19 cm x 21 cm x 71. 8 cm). . The saint's robes are brown, with dark gold-painted details and a brown-painted rope with three knots in the traditional Franciscan style representing poverty, chastity, and obedience. Multiple necklaces have been placed around his neck by worshippers. Christ, meanwhile, has been dressed in real clothing, brightly colored, with a gold-trimmed brown robe and an orange dress trimmed with gold and lace. . St. Anthony was a Portuguese Franciscan priest and friar who died in Padua, Italy. Despite being born into a wealthy family, he was known for his intense devotion to the poor and sick, and holds the distinction of being canonized most quickly of all the saints. He is also known as the patron saint of lost things - objects, people, and souls. In art, he is often depicted with a book and the infant Jesus, based on a commonly told story of him reading a book and seeing the Christ Child's image in it. . . Santos played an important role in bringing the Catholic Church to the New World with the Spanish colonists. These religious figures were hand-carved and often furnished with crowns, jewels, and other accessories, usually funded by religious devotees, and were used as icons to explain the major figures - Mary, Christ, and the saints - to new, indigenous converts. Likewise, they served as a connection to the Old World for Spanish colonists far from home. They became a folk art tradition in the Spanish New World, from modern day Guatemala to as far north as New Mexico and Colorado. Many of them were lovingly cared for over the years, with repairs and paint added as they aged, and played an active part for a long time in the religious life of their communities. . . Winchester Model 1982/ 65 218 BEE Conversion Rifle: This lot features a great example of a Winchester Model 1892/65 conversion lever action rifle chambered in 218 BEE caliber. This rifle was manufactured in 1908. The Winchester Model 1892 was a lever-action repeating rifle designed by John Browning as a smaller, lighter version of his large-frame Model 1886, and which replaced the Model 1873 as the company's lever-action for pistol-caliber rounds. The original rounds were the . 32-20, . 38-40, and . 44-40 Winchester centerfire rounds, followed in 1895 by the new . 25-20. In 1938, Winchester introduced a new cartridge in the Model 65 that gave the rifle a special place in hunting circles, the . 218 Bee. It had a rimmed, bottle-necked case based on the . 25-20 Winchester necked down for a . 224 bullet. The . 218 Bee was named for the bore diameter of the barrel, rather than the more common practice of using the bullet diameter for the name of the cartridge. This was a popular caliber swap when the . 218 BEE was introduced. This conversion rifle features a 24" round blue barrel, wonderful walnut stocks, blue'd finish, and fixed sights. This rifle is in good condition, with some handling and wear from use. The top of the barrel is marked, "WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL – MODEL 65 – WINCHESTER TRADEMARK – 218 BEE”. The barrel and frame show the correct Winchester proof marks. The rifle tang is marked, "Model 1892 - Winchester – TRADEMARK REG. IN U. S. PAT. OFF. " The rifle has an upgraded Redfield rear sight. Serial Number: 419873. This firearm qualifies as a Curio & Relic, and requires FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
