Cracks to three board top, replaced area to one of the boards; support boards nailed to underside of top; one side with several horizontal cracks, one large with some warping to panel; side panels of each side probably replaced; bottom molding at front right corner repaired; brasses replaced; lock of top drawer removed; other locks replaced; cracks to drawer fronts near escutcheons; replaced area of veneer to bottom drawer around escutcheon; repair to top left corner of bottom section; repairs and cracks to molded drawer divides; horizontal oak brace added to center of drawer bottoms except top drawer.

Selections from the Collection of Dr. John A. Downey of Manhattan and Sharon Connecticut. Born and raised on a farm in the prairies of Saskatchewan in 1930, Dr. Downey earned both his his B.S. and M.D. at the University of Manitoba. He later interned at the University of British Columbia and at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York in the area of Rehabilitation Medicine. He spent two years in Internal Medicine at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital at Harvard University and completed his Doctorate in Philosophy at Christ Church Oxford. Ultimately Dr. Downey became the Simon Baruch Professor and Chairman of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. In addition to his time in England, Dr Downey also traveled extensively throughout India and was a visiting professor of Physiology at Australia's University of Adelaide. The Downey collection features period Jacobean oak furniture and fine 19th century English watercolors of British India among other selections.

Inlaid Oak Chest of Drawers, 18th c. : 18th century oak chest of drawers, pine secondary; two board cleated top over two drawers over three graduated drawers, all dovetailed and constructed without dustboards. Each drawer outlined in ebony and double line inlaid ebony and holly, with mahogany crossbanding, kite inlaid escutcheons and oval brass pulls. Bracket feet with solid sides. 30 3/4" H x 37 1/2" W x 19" D. Probably British, last half 18th century. Provenance: The estate of Peter Fyfe, Nashville, TN, ex-Whitehall at the Villa Antiques, Chapel Hill, NC. A couple of drawers have small losses to inlaid corners, up to 1 1/2"L. Scattered small patches, losses and cracks.
William and Mary Oak Chest of Drawers, England, late 17th/first quarter 18th century, two small over three long drawers, on bun feet, ht. 36 1/2, wd. 39 1/4, dp. 22 3/8 in. Provenance: The Sara and Bob Hunt Collection of Early English Oak. Estimate $800-1,200 Element of molding to upper left drawer loose but present. Bun feet and low molding probably later. Top surface abrasions, wear, cracks, and restorations, possibly replaced. Crack to left side panel. Backboard probably replaced.
