Condition: Good, with light surface scratches and minor dings/dents. All cups are monogrammed. One cup is slightly bent.

England, "Capture of the Guns by the Highlanders before Cawnpore", ca. 1860 CE. A hand-colored steel engraving created as an illustration for Charles' Ball's "The History of the Indian Mutiny", Volume I, The London Printing & Publishing Company. The scene depicts a battle during the period of the East India Company reign in what is currently known as Kanpur, India. Set in a custom double linen-covered mat under glass and an attractive gilded/burl-finished wooden frame. Size: 7.75" W x 6" H (19.7 cm x 15.2 cm); 23.75" W x 21.375" H (60.3 cm x 54.3 cm) including double mat and frame.
Charles Ball's illustrated seven volumes provided a detailed history of a complicated period in Anglo-Indian history known as the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857-58, most often described as India's First War of Independence.
