GOUDA POTTERY MARKS - Identify makers marks and avoid reproductions

Join the most updated and complete collectibles research online - Learn more...

Gouda Pottery marksAlthough Gouda pottery refers to several companies from that region of Holland, each company or studio used different marks and logos to identify their wares. Some of the oldest potteries signed their items by including date ciphers and other symbols indicating designer, model, quality and other internal manufacturing references. These older potteries used well-documented marks and can be recognized by most experts.

However, many newer reproduction marks from recent or currently existing Gouda potteries are not easily identified and can lead to mistakes when it comes to appraising. Especially imports from China that bear imitations of older marks, can be particularly misleading because the quality of these is usually very good, but they are not antique or authentic.

Our members of our Pottery & Porcelain marks reference guide - marks4ceramics - have access to the most comprehensive and updated list for Gouda marks. Our experts can also answer your questions for free when trying to identify your pottery or porcelain marks or are unsure of the actual maker or age (members only).
