ESSIE WARD FOLK ART GENRE PAINTING Arkansas,1902-1981Titled "Grab His Old Head Hezzakiah," depicts an older man and woman seated outside a cabin, the woman holding a goose on her lap while a dog lays behind her. Ward's works often depict pioneer life and feature the characters Miranda and Hezzakaiah. Her primitive, and sometimes humorous, works have since given her the affectionate title of "Grandma Moses of the Ozarks."
