A wing of the Utsuyajima temple at the lake under a full moon. Signed with seal. Shinhanga, oban. Unframed, loose. 11 1/2" x 17". Near fine with minor ink transfer to the right hand deckled edge of the sheet, well away from the image.

Label verso from The Mitzie Verne Collection Inc. "Shi Shin (in Chinese Shih Chin) is one of the 108 bandit heroes of the famous Chinese novel "Suikoden" (translated by Pearl Buck under the title "All Men are Brothers". His nickname was "the Nine dragoned" because he was tattooed with an elaborate design of nine dragons. He began life as the son of a wealthy landowner in the village named after his family. Here he is shown relaxing on a summer evening before he began his career as a bandit."
