The works of this clock were crafted by the master Shaker clockmaker, Benjamin Youngs, whose uncle, Benjamin Youngs, Sr., trained him at Watervliet, New York. The beautifully crafted case is similar to a signed example by Erastus Rude, who was a contemporary of Youngs at the New Lebanon, New York community.
Cherry case with pine secondary wood, eight day brass movement stamped by the maker, "B. S. Youngs."

The master Shaker clockmaker, Benjamin Youngs, Sr. (1736-1818), was a member of the Church Family at Watervliet. He learned his craft from his father, who was a clockmaker in Connecticut. The number of surviving examples of his work indicate a prolific output. His nephews, Isaac Newton Youngs and Benjamin Seth Youngs, were also trained by him and became master clockmakers in their own right. Pine case with original red stain, engraved brass dial signed "Benjamin Youngs / Watervliet."
