A Beijing Enamel "European Subject" Bronze Lidded Box Rectangular in shape with rounded pinch corners, approx. 3-7/8" x 3-1/8" x 1-1/8"H. The rims and foot are gilt and the balance of the surfaces inside and out are embellished with minutely painted enamel designs, marked on the underside in blue enamel. There is Western influence seen in the decorations, the costumes and poses of the people and dog in the landscape. The central scene is surrounded by four floral reserves, which are repeated on the lower section. The lower interior also has a spray of the same flowers in pink and purple. Four character mark on the underside: Quainlong nain Zhi (Made in the Quianlong period, 1736-1780).
