This is an extremely rare Royal Doulton figurine, Spring, one of the pottery's first limited editions. Based on an ivory sculpture, Primavera, now in the Victoria and Albert Museum, by Richard Garbe, a distinguished Professor at the Royal College of Art. An edition of 100 of was introduced in 1934 but like most of Garbe's work for Royal Doulton, few have survived. Incised signature to base RICHARD GARBE RA. Stamped to base SPRING BY RICHARD GARBE ARA EDITION LIMITED TO 100. NO. 100. Restoration.
