- A RUSSIAN SILVER GILT AND SHADED CLOISONNÉ
A RUSSIAN SILVER GILT AND SHADED CLOISONNÉ ENAMEL KOVSH...A RUSSIAN SILVER GILT AND SHADED CLOISONNÉ ENAMEL KOVSH ATTRIBUTED TO FEODOR RUCKERT, RETAILED BY PAVEL OVCHINNIKOV, MOSCOW, CIRCA 1908-1918, of boat shape with notched hook form handle decorated with stylized floral and foliate decoration in shaded cloisonné enamel on a granulated silver gilt ground, underside marked (delta), (right facing kokoshnik), "84," (circular right facing kokoshnik for Moscow), (double struck Imperial Warrant), (P. OVCHINNIKOV in Cyrillic), over stamped mark, possibly (FR in Cyrillic), approximate weight: 3.34 ounces (gross). NOTE: Established in 1886, the firm owned and operated by Feodor Ruckert (1840-1917) specialized in the production of silver and silver gilt objects with delicately shaded pastel toned cloisonné enamel decoration. In 1887 Ruckert signed a contract with the St. Petersburg firm of Karl Fabergé to serve as an independent work master, providing enameled works of art sold under the Fabergé name through their showrooms. In addition to Fabergé, Ruckert provided works to the Moscow firms of Pavel Ovchinnikov and Orest Kurlyukov, and Josef Marshak of Kiev. The extent of Ruckert's production is difficult to determine, as it was common for these retailers to over stamp Ruckert's maker's mark with their own, as seen on this piece.
