The burnt orange and bone-toned obelisk has some small edge nicks, has been broken and repaired about a quarter down from top, finial re-glued, gilt brass bands have tarnished areas, and normal surface buildup in crevices. The two piece black inlaid white marble obelisk has normal tiny surface and corner nicks, light surface wear, buildup, but otherwise is in good shape. The pair of brass obelisks are in good vintage condition with some light surface oxidation throughout. Simpson Galleries strongly encourages in-person inspection of items by the bidder. NEWCASTLE MARBLED LUSTRE AND ENAMEL-DECORATED WATCH HUTCH, SEWELL, CIRCA 1820-30.

Collation: 1 (in 6s, lacking ii); 2 (in 7s); 3 (in 9s, lacking i); 4-5 (in 8s); 6-7 (in 7s, lacking iii); 8 (in 8s); 9 (in 7s, lacking i); 10 (in 4s, lacking iv); 11-14 (in 8s); 15 (in 4s); 16-17 (in 8s); 18-19 (in 5s, lacking iii); last 2 leaves halved (+ iv vellum flyleaves). 20 lines written in black ink faded brown in a gothic bookhand between two verticals, ruled in red, justification: 103 x 75mm., rubrics in red, numerous one-line initials alternately of blue with red penwork flourishing and of burnished gold flourished black, numerous two-line initials of burnished gold on grounds with infills of pink and blue with white decoration, 16 large eight-line initials with full-page borders; initials in blue or red, on burnished gold ground, infilled with colored flowers in trefoil sprays and branchwork, some in interlace design, three-quarter borders made up of colored acanthus leaves predominantly in pink, blue, green and a reddish-orange, enlivened with naturalistic flowers and hairline tendrils of gold leaves and circular disks, interspersed are various figures and fantastical creatures including an axeman, monkeys, peacocks, a collared dog, a reindeer, lions and bears. one full-page miniature of christ in the garden of gethsemane (f.22v). Christ kneels on a fenced-in mound looking towards a chalice, three nimbed disciples are sleeping in the foreground, in the distance soldiers approach carrying spears and wearing helmets, led by Judas carrying a money sack. Late 19th-century dark brown morocco, covers blind stamped with central cartouche and roll tooling, spine stamped and lettered in gilt, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers, modern brown cloth-covered box. Condition: 15 leaves excised of mostly full page miniatures,occasional smudging to text, some darkening and staining to the vellum, slight cropping to some borders not affecting imagery, some minor tears with the last nine leaves repaired at the bottom right corner; light surface wear, spine rubbed with some loss of gilt. Provenance: Elizabeth Harlakynden (inscribed on a blank flyleaf); Sir Henry Mainwaring, Bart. Description Center core alternates white and yellow threads. Outer decoration has four bands, two alternate white, orange, green, and blue and the other two alternate yellow, orange, and black.

The smallest marble has a green base with reddish-orange and brown striping. Nice diaper fold effect at pinch lines. The larger marble has a yellow base with red and black striping. Both have two pinch lines and fantastic color striping.

King Marble Tower (Kakelorum).
Polychrome wood. Green spiral, head of king with black hair and mustache, cream colored face and cloak, blue crown with red base. Description Larger marble is a white, blue, pink onionskin with a small black spec of furnace kiln embedded in the surface. The smaller marble is a white, blue, and orange onionskin loaded with Lutz.

SMALL WATERCOLOR OF FAMOUS CONFEDERAT DICK MORGAN OF THE VIRGINIA “BLACK HORSE” CAVALRY. Early 19th Century, painted on very old ledger book paper with marbled back, it has an exposed vertical image of 7-5/8” x 4-5/16” with of Dick Morgan in gray uniform with orange lapels, cuffs & saddle blanket astride a black horse. The back of the painting has a small inscription in pencil “Dick Morgan”. The frame, of tiger maple, is period to the piece. CONDITION: Fine to very fine. Colors are vivid & bright with some light soil & foxing in white areas. Frame is fine with some crazing of the varnish. 4-60237 JR489 (500-700)
Lot Of 2: Ribbon Swirl Marbles.
The smaller is a complex four stage. The center is two black bands surrounded by fine yellow latticino. A white and red ribbon surround the yellow latticino. Outer bands are alternating red, white, and blue bands with yellow, orange, and green bands. The large marble is a double ribbon of red, turquoise, and pink with multicolor outer band. Both have faceted pontil.

Lot of 2: Christensen Agate Stripe Opaque Marbles
Includes one with black base loaded with yellow and orange stripes and one with green base with reddish-brown stripes. Both marbles have lots of color coverage.
