NEWPORT CHIPPENDALE BLOCK & SHELL DESKA fine limited edition, solid mahogany slat lid Chippendale desk, copy of the famous John Townsend of Newport block and shell carved desk from the 18th century. Hand crafted with dovetailed construction and hand rubbed finish. Made by Franklin Heirloom Furniture, it has the former owner name, maker and 1978 date on brass plaque inside. Comes with original pamphlet with history and price tag of $4800 in 1977. Only a few were actually produced with one displayed at the US Dept of State Diplomatic Reception room. Size: 42 x 42 x 23 deep. VG condition with small section of block missing on back right leg, one small interior drawer missing, 4 small brass knobs missing.
