GROUP OF 13 CIVIL WAR RELATED CDV CARDSCollection of 13 Civil War Related carte de visite cards from various studios, including several officers in uniform including a signed Major General James "Birdseye" Mc Pherson CDV, Kearny, Thomas, McClellan, Hooker, Thomas Waldon (NY Private), Brig. General Robert P. Kennedy, 3 other unnamed subjects and 1 group shot of soldiers in uniform. Lot also includes a hand tinted card of an African American female with a white child and a portrait card depicting the "Old Abe" or Live Eagle, the symbol on the flag of the 8th Wisconsin Regiment. Note: Major General James "Birdseye" Mc Pherson was killed at the Battle of Atlanta, facing the army of John Bell Hood, his old West Point classmate. CIVIL WAR CERTIFICATE US COLORED TROOPS (USCT)Certificate of Honorable Service for Washington Bloodsworth, of the 14th Regiment, United States Colored Heavy Artillery, Garrison duty at New Berne and other points in the Department of North Carolina until December 1865, mustered out December 11,1865. The Regiment fought in the Second Battle of Dalton, Battle of Decatur, and most notably the Battle of Nashville, helping defeat the Confederate Army of Tennessee, chasing Lieutenant General John Bell Hood who had suffered a bloody defeat atDevils Den, Little Round Top, and then lost a leg at Chickamauga. BATTLE OF NASHVILLE DEC 15 1864 UNION OFFICER LETTWritten by "Henry", thought to be Henry C. Grant First Officer, Second Division, Army of the Cumberland, to his sister Fannie, December 15 1864. Written the day of the Battle of Nashville the letter describes Confederate General John Bell Hood taking on the Federal forces led by Major General George H. Thomas. Henry says of the battle on December 15 "I never saw Yanks run as the Johnnies did to day." He goes on to talk about the battle, saying"...it was a grand but terrible sight...Hoods ary is badly demoralized..." He also touches on the living conditions in Nashville that winter, talking about the high cost of food and asking for provisions. Written on a single sheet of paper folded in half and folded to fit in an envelope. Overallapprox. 15" L x 9-3/4" H. Discoloration typical for age, multiple folds. See images for detail.
