PAIR OF CHINESE BLUE & WHITE CUPS,YONGZHENG PERIOD A pair of Chinese blue and white phoenix cups, dating from the Youngzheng period (1722-1735).each of conical form, the steep sides of the interior painted with an inverted phoenix with outstractched wings, its body wrapping over the rim and extending down the exterior with long plumage flowing, set opposite two sprays of bamboo similarly growing from the exterior over the rim and extending into the cup beribboned tassel in underglaze blue within a double circle to the recessed base. D. 2 5/8" (6.6 cm), H. 1 1/4" (3.1 cm) Compare a pair of cups of the same desgin with different marks on the base, attributed to the Kangxi Period, published in Qing Imperial Porcelain of the Kangxi,Yongzheng and Qianlong Reigns, Nanjing and Hong Kong, 1995,pl.18.
