OLIVER ELLSWORTH SIGNED MANUSCRIPT AND PICTURE Matted and ready for framing is a full manuscript pay order to Ezl Williams, Saml Wadsworth & Ephram Butt, a com(mit)tee to take care of Ticonderoga prisoners signed by Oliver Ellsworth, who was the third Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, dated September 1, 1775, May 3, 1777, to June 12, 1783. Capt. Ephraim Bull in Continental Army and Capt. Hurlbert Light Dragoons Conn line, Ezekiel Williams (1729-1818), he also served as a member of a committee in charge of prisoners of war in the state and became commissary of prisoners in 1777. His younger brother was Declaration of Independence signer William Williams. Accompanied by an engraved steel plate printing of Oliver Ellsworth and with a complete Norwich watermark. Bold and elaborate signatures with clear writing make this very presentable.

CONFEDERATE LOUISIANA FROCK COAT United States,Steel gray jean cloth body (turned a slight green cast), black worsted wool tape trimmings, large gilt Hyde & Goodrich New Orleans, Louisiana pelican buttons on the breast, cuff-size U.S. eagle dragoon buttons with no back marks on the cuffs and shoulder straps, lined in the upper body with white twilled shalloon or light serge, unlined skirts with brown polished cotton skirt pocket bags, a pair of white gloves, a daguerreotype of a New Orleans gentleman marked inside the case "F. LAW./NEW ORLEANS/LA", with a paper label on the spine of the case marked "new orleans apr. 21st 1858", and a hand-sewn black velvet silk-lined case. Note: One of the finest enlisted Confederate frock coats extant with impeccable provenance. Bought originally by the renowned pioneer Civil War collector Robert L. Miller in 1953. Comes with lengthy 1953 correspondence with Miller concerning his purchase of this rare coat. Believed to have been worn by Charles Stebbins of the 5th Louisiana who deserted and took the oath of allegiance, although further research is probably warranted. COLT DRAGOON 2ND MODEL ENGRAVED REVOLVER. An 1850 gun with serial #: 9375 (matching numbers) 2nd Model Colt Dragoon percussion revolver. This (6) shot revolver chambered in .44 cal features an approx. 7 1/2" octagonal to round bbl, silverplated square back trigger guard/backstrap, one piece walnut grip with a piano finish, fully engraved with exquisite period Colt style punch dot work, and a Colt factory engraved cylinder "Ranger and Indian" scene. The 2nd model Colt Dragoon has an approx. pop of 2,700. From a Scarsdale, NY estate. Dimmensions: bbl measures approx. 7 1/2" in length. This lot is not available for purchase in the following states, counties, and boroughs; New York, California, New Jersey, and New York City (The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island). Condition: Revolver exhibits wear consistent with age. Gun appears to function however it is sold as is. Action is smooth. Revolver exhibits the following: loss of plating to blackstrap/trigger guard. Grip exhibits possible minor loss. Trigger guard base replaced stamped to match. Replaced loading lever stamped to match. Lever catch replaced. Bore is bright with rifling.

Seven of the ten went on to serve as Generals in the Civil War: William Techumseh Sherman (1820-1891); William Warren Chapman (1814-1859); John Fulton Reynolds (1820-1863, KIA Gettysburg); George Henry Thomas (1816-1870); John Lowry Donaldson (1814-1885); James Henry Carleton (1814-1873). Two of the others died of yellow fever in the 1850's.
