LINE VAUTRINE (1914-1977) GILT BRONZE COMPACT. Signed Line Vautrine French gilt bronze hinged compact displaying the first excerpt from the poem entitled 'Green' by French poet Paul Verlaine. Inscribed, "Voici Des Fruits Des Fleurs Des Feuilles Et Des Brancnes Et Puis Voici Mon Coeur Qui Nebat Que Pour Vous". With a mirrored interior and the original powder puff. Script signature of, "Line Vautrine" to bottom right corner verso. Total approx. weight of the compact is 125.0 grams (gross). From a Hollis, NY estate. Dimensions: the compact measures approx. 2.875" w x 2.675" d x 0.5" h. Condition: Good, with light surface scratches and minor dings/dents. Minor losses to the gilt finish.

Attributed to Mi'kmaq makers, Nova Scotia, circa 1900. Minor splint damage to rim. H: 30"; W/L: 18"; D/P: 12". FRANCAIS: Panier plat tressé, monté sur un support en fer avec une poignée en cerceau et tige à planter, prétendument pour cueillir des fleurs. Dommages mineurs à l’écore du rebord.
