- 18th C Embroidered Court Suit, circa
18th C Embroidered Court Suit, circa 1780, comprised of a yellow-green silk coat, waistcoat and breeches. The coat with tall stand collar, deep three button fabric covered cuffs, scalloped pocket flaps and back pleats in heavily embroidered floral silk decoration, silk lined, 34" chest, 30" shoulders, 43" shoulder to hem, a matched button front silk and linen waistcoat, scalloped pockets and embroidered decoration repeated, 34" chest, 28" shoulder to hem along with a pair of scarce matched breeches, lined in linen, baring the tag "morant and co new bond street, AC DA CRUZ, embroidered trim at calf closure, 28" waist, 27" waist to hem. There are breaks to the silk lining of the coat, the back seam needs re-sewn, button losses, weakening of fabric at some seams. The group also to include a silk brocade 18th c ruff sleeve bodice, a single hook and eye closure at neck with hidden busk, many areas needing re-sewn, shoulders, arm openings appear to have been tampered with in some way, perhaps taken in, 34" bust, 32" shoulders https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/98462

- EARLY SCRIMSHAW BUSK. 18th/19th C. whale
EARLY SCRIMSHAW BUSK. 18th/19th C. whale bone busk with fine two color (red and green) two-sided scrimshaw decoration. Primary decoration depicting a heart over flowering potted plant, tombstone with weeping willow tree, and 12-pointed star over house. Bordered with triangular geometrical design. Back side decorated with flowering vine and rectangular cartouche, 10.25”H x 1.5”W. Busks are long, flat slices out of whalebone ribs that whaling crews decorated with carvings and then gave to their wives or sweethearts once they were back on land after a voyage. Busks were slipped into vertical pocket in ladies’ corsets to stiffen the garment.
