- LARGE CHINESE EXPORT OIL PAINTING OF
LARGE CHINESE EXPORT OIL PAINTING OF BOAT, 18TH C. This large 1800's framed oil painting features towns ocean side which is filled with different kinds of boats which past each other in the teal, off-white water. These boats are done in a descriptive fashion as if part of an encyclopedia, with smaller canoes acting as page breaks. The style of painting is very similar to that of John James Audobon however it does not match his subject matter. This painting likely resided in the home of someone who was involved in the British import business given that many of the ships are from other countries which were involved in trade with England at the time. This painting is encased in a double frame. One frame is painted gold while the other is painted gold and black.
D: 65 by 34.6 in ( 165.1 by 87.88 cm)
Condition: There is a small amount of damage evident near the bottom right-hand corner. There is discoloring near the top center. The frame has yellow spots or discoloring or damage of the top left-hand side. The top back of the frame is discolored.
