Large and Imposing Three-Piece
Large and Imposing Three-Piece Lemerle-Charpentier & Cie., Paris, Gilt-Bronze Mantel Garniture, fourth quarter 19th century, in the Louis XVI style, the central mantel clock supported and surmounted by a trio of frolicking putti, the circular white enamel dial with blue Roman chapters and signed "Lemerle Charpentier/Bronzier/Paris/Rue Charlot 8", h. 26", w. 24", d. 10", the pair of flanking tiered twelve-light candelabra supported by standing putti holding garland-draped antique vases, h. 31-1/2", w. 14-1/2", d. 16-1/2", the gilded finish in matte and bright contrasts. The important French foundry Lemerle-Charpentier had its origins in the 16th century and was known for its creation of superlative gilt-bronze clocks and garnitures. The firm was succeeded by Maison Lemerle in 1860, and was known from 1870 as Lemerle-Charpentier. The foundry exhibited at the Paris Exposition of 1878 where it won a gold medal, primarily for the designs of Frederic-Eugene Piat (1827-1903), whose influence is keenly evident in this set and its romantic Second Empire interpretations of the Baroque style.

Fine Chinese white jade, coral and seed pearl necklace and pendant 18/19th century The well carved circular pendant carved in openwork shows various auspicious symbols including lingzhi headed catfish, flaming pearls, and antique vases all joined by a Indian lotus issuing scrolling leaves, supported by a turned coral bead and seed pearls joining a necklace of sixty oval white jade and celadon jade beads, restrung, together with another white jade pendant and a green and motted jade hat pin jade mount.
