4PCS MEDAL OF HONOR RECIPIENTS SIGNED DOCUMENTS George Evans Davis (December 26, 1839 ? June 28, 1926), a signed bank check drawn on Merchants National Bank of Burlington, Vermont. Oliver Duff (or Davis) Greene (January 25, 1833 ? March 19, 1904) was a Union officer who received the Medal of Honor on December 13, 1893, for his action at the Battle of Antietam on September 16, 1862. Signed special orders. Brig. Gen. Absalom Baird (August 20, 1824 ? June 14, 1905) was a career United States Army officer who distinguished himself as a Union Army general in the American Civil War. Baird received the Medal of Honor for his military actions. 24 page General Orders signed by Baird. Brigadier General Rufus Saxton (1824-1908), a general in the Union Army. Handwritten letter with signature.

Showalter with brothers in 1861; a Model 1864 cartridge box (tins missing) with a belt and "US" belt plate; a leather-bound book (cover detached) titled "Personal War Sketches/Presented To/W.S. Thompson Post No. 132/Department of Pennsylvania" with all of the service of each member of the post including Showalter; a tin box marked "Post 132" with paint loss and wear; a Gettysburg booklet; a GAR book titled "Centenary of/Abraham Lincoln/1809-1909"; a diary which includes a description of the Battle of Antietam; Showalter's discharge from the 124th Pennsylvania Regiment; Showalter's discharge from the 2nd Pennsylvania Cavalry; two typed descriptions of Showalter's service; a large group of G.A.R. medals; a copy of the 140th Pennsylvania Volunteers regimental history signed by the author; a copy of the 124th Pennsylvania Volunteers regimental history signed by the author; a copy of Pennsylvania at Antietam; his soldiers memorial from the 124th PA; and a copy of Second Brigade of the Pennsylvania Reserves at Antietam. Note: Joseph Morgan Showalter was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in 1845. In 1862 he enlisted as a private in the 124th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry and fought in the Battle of Antietam and Chancellorsville, after which his enlistment ended. When Lee marched into Pennsylvania in 1863, he enlisted in the 29th Emergency Militia and served as a corporal. The unit was held in reserve and discharged in August 1863. In 1864 he enlisted as a quarter master sergeant in the 2nd Pennsylvania Cavalry and served at Petersburg and Appomattox. He was discharged on June 12, 1865. After the war, he was involved with the Grand Army of the Republic. He died in 1942 at the age of 96-97.

Note: This portrait has hung in the Hall ancestral home of the consignor in Belmont North Carolina since the 19th Century. It is very likely the civilian pendant to the uniformed portrait by William Garl Browne Jr. that is also being offered in this auction.
Born on April 12, 1831 in Orange County, North Carolina, Anderson was a career soldier. He is among six generals killed or mortally wounded at the Battle of Antietam in September of 1862. He died in 1862 at the age of 31, in Raleigh, North Carolina

(light rust to surfaces); a folding "housewife" sewing and repair kit retaining two needles and two pins, this said to have been used to illustrate a September 1992 Civil War poster featuring Antietam (4 x 3.25 in. folded) (normal wear from use).
