Winchester Model 1895 . 30-40 US Lever Action Rifle: For bidding in this lot is a Winchester Model 1895 Lever Action rifle, chambered for . 30 US, otherwise known as . 30-40 Krag. This particular example originates from manufacture year 1910. The Winchester Model 1895 is a lever-action repeating firearm developed and manufactured by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company in the late 19th century, chambered for a number of full-size military and hunting cartridges such as 7. 62ÌÑ54mmR, . 303 British, . 30-03, . 30 Army, . 30-06, . 35 Winchester, . 38-72 Winchester, . 40-72 Winchester and . 405 Winchester. The Model 1895 was the first Winchester rifle to feature a box magazine located underneath the action instead of the tubular magazine design, which had remained fundamentally unchanged from the Winchester 1866. This allowed the rifle to safely chamber military and hunting cartridges with spitzer (pointed) bullets. The M1895 was also the last of the lever-action rifles to be designed by John Browning, and featured a rear locking bolt as in his previous designs dating back to the Winchester 1886. The M1895 is the strongest lever-action rifle Winchester has produced, designed to handle the increased pressures generated by the more powerful smokeless powder cartridges entering common use at the time of its introduction. This example utilizes a 27" round barrel, blue'd finish, contrasted by beautiful walnut fixtures. The firearm shows the correct roll-stamping, reading; ". 30 U. S. " on the top of the barrel, behind the rear sight, "Model 1895 - WINCHESTER - TRADE MARK" on the upper-tang, "MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. - NEW HAVEN, CONN. U. S. A. PAT. NOV. 5. 95. NOV. 12. 95. AUG. 17. 97. JAN. 25. 98. AUG. 23. 98. - AUG. 6. 07" on the left side of the receiver, and "NICKEL STEEL BARREL - ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER" on the upper left of the barrel. Overall, the firearm shows good condition, the blue'd finish shows a nice even wear, with patina indicative of age, good walnut fixtures with slight handling wear, and a tight action, paired with a fair bore. The rifle qualifies as a Curio & Relic Long Gun, and requires FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check. Serial Number: 62303. Rare 22-Star United States Flag for Alabamacirca 1819 hand stitched throughout wool with cotton stars applied to both sides in five rows the canvas heading is threaded with a rope secured by a wooden toggle and is inscribed ''Presented to Capt. C. H. Beckshafft by W. H. Ball '' folded to fit in a modern painted wooden frame 42 x 72 in. the flag itself being 42 x 97 in.The flag's recipient Captain C. H. Beckshafft served the Union during the Civil War as a junior officer aboard the ''Malvern '' the ''Release'' and the ''Yantic.''This flag was examined by Whitney Smith Ph.D. of the Flag Research Center in Winchester Massachusetts. Dr. Whitney's letter authenticating the flag is included with the lot and states in part: ''...Alabama was the 22nd state admitted to the Union on 14 December 1819. However Maine was admitted as the 23rd state on 15 March 1820 and in accordance with the then existing flag law the stars for both Alabama and Maine were officially added to the United States flag on 4 July 1820. Therefore there never was an official 22-star flag. There is nothing in the item at hand to suggest that any alteration was made in the flag subsequent to its initial construction. Therefore there is a strong presumption that the flag was made at the time when Alabama was a state (or about to become a state) and before its star was added to the national flag on 4 July 1820...It is my considered opinion it is an authentic original 22-star United States flag and therefore a valuable item considering its rarity and condition.''Good condition overall; minor loss and repairs.Ex. Colt Model of 1871-72 Open Top . 44 Cal Revolver: This lot provides you with the opportunity to bid on an excellent example of a Colt Model 1871-72 Open Top, six-shot, single action revolver, chambered for the . 44 Henry Rimfire. The Model 1871-72 or simply, Open Top was the brain child of of engineer William Mason. Mason worked for the Colt Patent Fire Arms Manufacturing Company between 1866-1882, in that time, he had his hands in the design of the "Richards-Mason Conversion", the 1871-72 Open-Top, Colt Single Action Army, The "New Line", and the Double-Action Colt M1877, M1878, and the M1889. Even though Mason departed with Colt in 1882 to work with Winchester, Carl J. Ehbets remained at Colt, and continued to refine the design which they had collaborated on - Leading to the inception of the Colt M1889. Even though the Model 1871-72 lived a short 3 year production life, it led to critical developments for the renowned Colt Single Action Army, or "Peacemaker". The Open-Top would be submitted to the US Army for testing in 1872, and rejected for a more powerful option. This decision led to the birth of the new model Colt Single Action Army, chambered for the newest caliber of its time - the . 45 Colt. This revolver in particular shows standard features of a Colt Open-Top, utilizing a 7 1/2" barrel, six-shot cylinder, walnut grips, rear barrel mounted v-notch sight, paired with a brass blade front sight, and an underlug cartridge extractor. JULY. 25. 1871" over "PAT. JULY. 2. 1872. " on the left side of the frame, and showing matching serial numbers on the butt of the grips, cylinder, bottom of the barrel, bottom of the frame, and on the bottom of the trigger assembly. Overall, the revolver shows very-good condition. The revolver has a fine naturally aged patina, with only minor pitting, and very-good grips, absent of cracks, but showing slight wear at the metal to wood contacts. Mechanically the revolver is sound, with a tight action, which is in good time. The cylinder does have some slight play on lock-up, and the barrel shows some pitting and rust, but has good traces of rifling. The revolver qualifies as an Antique Handgun, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check. Serial Number: 1858.
