Rob Roy MacGregor, 1671-1734, was a dangerous and powerful outlaw who ran a protection racket in the Highlands of Scotland, but as he blackmailed the rich landowners, opposed the government agents and was capable of acts of justice and even generosity, he became an accepted popular hero, and appears in a novel bearing his name by Sir Walter Scott. #whiskey #kingsware #WalterScott

All marked with tartan pattern name. All but McPherson and Rob Roy rings have "Scotland" mark. All approx. 1" H x 2" dia. 12th - 16th items: Five (5) Scottish tartanware circular lidded boxes of various sizes with black painted edges, including two (2) McBeth, one (1) McLean with silver painted interior, one (1) Grant with blue lined base, and one (1) Robert. All marked with tartan pattern name. Heights ranging from 5/8" H to 1 5/8" H. Diameters ranging from 1 1/4" dia. to 2 3/4" dia. 17th item: English tartanware circular lidded box with black painted edges in the Prince Charlie tartan pattern having brown lined base. Tartan pattern mark to side of lid and "R. B. Ede & Co. London" mark to top. 7/8" H x 2 3/4" dia. 18th - 20th items: Three (3) Scottish tartanware items, including one (1) letter opener in the Albert pattern, one (1) bookmark in the McBeth pattern, and one (1) needleholder in the Stuart pattern. All marked with tartan pattern name. Ranging in size from 1 3/8" H x 1/2" W to 8 1/8" H x 5/8" W. All items 19th century.

1st - 11th items: Overall good condition with scattered crazing and wear to black paint and tartan patterns. Some with scattered minor losses to decoration, largest measuring 1/2" x 1/8". 12th - 17th items: Overall good condition with surface wear to decoration, wear to black paint, and wear to two linings of bases. McLean box with losses to silver paint to interior. One McBeth box fused closed. 18th - 20th items: Overall very good condition with minor scattered crazing and minor surface wear.

The cane is wonderfully and professionally crafted wooden and sterling silver construction that shows a traditional design to the cane with a naturally included grip and a sterling silver collar that reads as follows: Jack Munroe - To - Rob Roy Benton - 1904 - Sterling - From Butte Mont. Jack Munroe was a copper miner in Butte, Mont. hailing from Nova Scotia originally and encountered fame for an exhibition fight against Jim Jeffries; he later served in the Canadian Light Infantry during WWI where he lost his arm due to infection from a snipers bullet. The cane seems to be a gift for Ron Roy Benton who was a Sports Writer in 1904. The condition of this of this walking cane is good with the tip missing but otherwise shows good overall condition. The measurements of this cane is 35 1/2" x 4 1/2" x 7/8".
