- MARK TWAIN PASSENGER CRUISE LIST TO
MARK TWAIN PASSENGER CRUISE LIST TO ITALY, 1903 Mark Twain, Samuel Clemens, a fine, colorful and uncommonly found example of the passenger list of a cruise he took with his family to help get Olivia to a more healthful welcoming place due to her health issues. The Princess Irene Left New York October 24th, 1903 owned by the North German Lloyd Steamship company, 4 p.p.,clearly listing the Clemens family of which included Himself, wife, 2 daughters and a maid. Olivia's health began worsening and, advised to keep a distance from her husband in order to keep from getting overexcited, went months without seeing him. However, Twain frequently broke the rule and secretly saw her in order to exchange love letters and kisses. By the end of 1903, doctors' advice led the Clemens family to move to Italy for the warm climate where they resided in a rented villa outside of Florence. The passenger list also includes, Mrs. Augustus St Gaudens, William Greene Roelker, Wilson Levering Smith, Mr. Waldo Lincoln, and many others.
