The Maxwell Motor Company was established in 1904 in North Tarrytown, New York as the Maxwell-Briscoe Company. The firm was reorganized and renamed in 1913, and its headquarters relocated to Highland Park, Michigan, with additional plants in Dayton, Ohio. Despite profits early on, Maxwell eventually found itself in debt by the 1920s and ultimately was absorbed by automobile tycoon Walter P. Chrysler.
