BATTLE OF RIVER PLATE SILVER PRESENTATION CASE England,C. 1939-45Sterling silver presentation cigarette case marked on the lid "To R.L.A./In memory of the/Battle of the River Plate/with keen appreciation./B.C.H.", marked on the front "R.H.B./J.N. Mc. C/D.K./E.H.P.", the right side of the lid and box have silver hallmarks, with a leather bottom, and wooden insert. Note: The Battle of the River Plate was fought between the German Graf Spee and the British Exeter, Achilles, and the Ajax, with the Graf Spee damaged and in the Port of Montevideo for repairs. Thinking there was a greater British force waiting for her, she was scuttled.
