*Note: Salinas was a close friend of the Spanish matador Manolete (Manuel Laureano Rodríguez Sánchez (1917-1947), whom he likely met at the Plaza de Toros in Mexico City. Manolete was very popular, even having his bullfighting prowess emulated by others. He was fatally gored by a bull in the ring at Linares, Spain. Salinas, who was In Spain at that time, visited him in the hospital, making sketches of Manolete before his death on August 29, 1947. This rendering represents one of Salinas' largest bullfighter paintings. The hospital sketches are now part of a private Texas collection.*
