SèVRES STYLE BISQUE PORCELAIN BUSTS OF LOUIS XVI AND MARIE ANTOINETTE France, late 19th century, after Louis Simon Boizot (1743-1809), King Louis XVI with insignia of the Order of the Golden Fleece and the Order of the Saint Espirit, Marie Antoinette with her hair arranged with a ribbon and a tiara with fleur-de-lis; each raised on a separate porcelain socle in the form of a truncated column with cobalt ground and gilt decoration, including laurel crown with royal monogram, attached with nut and bolt; Sèvres-style mark incised to socle interiors.

AFTER RIESENER LOUIS XVI PERIOD CORNER CABINET Louis XVI gilt bronze mounted satinwood and amaranth encoignure, after a model by Jean Henri Riesener (1734-1806), circa 1785, the corner cabinet with red marble top above the case with single drawer and cupboard door, overall with finely cast bronze mounts and scrolling foliate motifs. 40.5" H x 33" W x 22" D. Provenance: Removed from the Fifth Avenue residence of the MacArthur Family. Note: similar examples from a set of four cabinets made for Marie Antoinette's Hameau de la Reine at the Palace of Versailles are in the collections of The Art Institute of Chicago and The Saint Louis Art Museum.

Note: The original cup from the the Sèvres service for the dairy at Rambouillet was designed by Hubert Roberts based on ancient forms that were being unearthed at the time. Only sixty-five pieces of the service were ever delivered and over two shipments in 1787-88. The original design was brightly colored, Sèvres created the version in white an gold for Empress Josephine Bonaparte in the 19th century using the original molds that are still employed in the production of these cups today.
