A marble bookend (1) with a bronze Indian portrait, signed "C. Kauba" on collar. Great detail to feathers and wrinkled skin. Apprx 7-1/2"T x 7"W x 3-1/2"D. Kauba was born and lived in Vienna, Austria. He never visited America but was inspired by the romantic American West writings of German author Carl May and by photos sent to him by a friend in Ohio, who also sent him Indian artifacts and cowboy related items.

Asa "Ace" Lynn Powell was a Montana artist known for his Western works of art in watercolor, oil paints, bronze, wood and terracotta. Powell is remembered as one of the greatest Western artists of the 20th century. This bronze is a depiction of a Blackfoot Indian man and woman executed in a relief wall plaque. Carl was a prolific artist, crafting masterpieces that captured the American West in all its greatness. The bronze depicts a Native American chief holding a rifle while looking off into the distance. The chief is depicted in a large, eagle feather headdress and tasseled shirt. The statue is signed on the back of the bronze base. The bronze shows wonderful detail and is set on a black marble base. The piece shows good condition and would make a wonderful addition to any collection. The bronze statue measures 24 1/4" tall by approximately 15 1/2" at the widest.
