bearing the name R. Oglesby on the face of a postcard.card dated Dec. 25, 1916 with postmark of Chester, PA, and features a hand-painted Thomas Jefferson 1-cent stamp.underside marked T&V Limoges France and with further marks for G.B.S.Co.Height 3 3/4 inches.
Robert Phillip Oglesby was born on December 25, 1883, in Chester, Pennsylvania to Phillip Powell and Elizabeth Oglesby. He married Helen "Nellie" Cullen in 1905 and was working as a stone cutter at a marble yard by 1910. The U.S. Federal Census of 1920 reports that Oglesby had fathered two children and was working as a clerk at the local post office. He and Nellie went on to have two more children before his death on November 29, 1946.

NEW ENGLAND GALAXY NEWSPAPER SET, 1826-1827 Complete set of bound newspapers dated February 10, 1826 through December 14th, 1827, included and most notable is the announcement of the death of Thomas Jefferson and John Adams, "Wednesday last was observed as a day of mourning for these two illustrious individuals...etc." Also gives the order of procession for each of these two historic men. Nice condition. as well as all the world and local news, advertisements, etc. Unbound with solid bindings.

GEN LEONIDAS POLK HANDWRITTEN SIGNED LETTER Leonidas Polk (1838-1864), signed letter in his hand. ALS, as bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana and founder of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the Confederate States of America. This was before becoming a General in the Confederate Army. Letter is to Reverend L, discussing religion. General Leonidas Lafayette Polk, second cousin to President James K. Polk, was a planter in Maury County, Tennessee, and a bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana. A graduate of West Point, he resigned his military commission in 1827 and was ordained a deacon in the Episcopal Church in 1830. He served as Bishop of Louisiana from 1841 to 1864. At the outbreak of the Civil War, Jefferson Davis convinced Polk to accept a commission in the army of the Confederate States. Polk agreed and was commissioned a major general commanding Department No. 2 in 1861. During the Atlanta Campaign, Polk was killed in action on June 14, 1864, while on a scouting mission in Kennesaw Georgia.
