12th C. Islamic Ink Well Marbled Glass: **Originally Listed At $1200**. . Ancient Near East, Islamic, ca. 12th to 14th century CE. A stunning example of a rounded ink well with a tapered body that terminates in a petite discoid foot and a wide mouth which perhaps at one time held a lid. The vessel is formed from semi-translucent yellow-green glass with canes of opaque white glass marvered into the composition, however age-commensurate darkening has rendered the vessel in a stark jet-black hue. This type of vessel was used to hold various colors of ink. Scattered areas of fiery silver and rainbow-hued iridescence add an elegant burst of color to complement the vessel's bichrome presentation. Size: 2. 2" W x 1. 4" H (5. 6 cm x 3. 6 cm). . . Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection; ex-Martin J. Wunsch collection, New York, USA, acquired in the 1980s. . All items legal to buy/sell under U. S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. . . A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. . We ship worldwide and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience. . #141988 Condition Original lid missing. Minor abrasions and nicks to shoulder, rim, body, and base, with light encrustations, otherwise intact and excellent. Light earthen deposits as well as scattered areas of fiery silver and rainbow iridescence throughout. Old inventory label beneath base.
