HABLOT KNIGHT BROWNE O/C PAINTING, SERVES HIM RIGHT, 18...Hablot Knight "Phiz" Browne (England, 1815-1882) oil on canvas painting, titled "And Serves Him Right", depicting a woman in a blue dress putting a blindfolded Cupid in an icebox that is being held open by a young boy. Cupid's quiver, bow, and arrows lie strewn on the floor in the foreground while a door and shelves filled with containers of multiple sizes and styles are in the background. Titled, signed HKB, and dated "64", en verso of stretcher. Informational paper label in a plastic sleeve affixed en verso of frame. Housed in a molded giltwood frame with cabochon flourish corners and center ornaments having placard with title, artist's name, nickname, origin, and incorrect birthdate affixed to lower sight edge. Sight 11 5/8" H x 9 1/2" W. Framed: 17" H x 15" W.

Overall very good condition with minor craquelure throughout.

Petrides has participated in many solo and group shows in the United States, Europe, Asia, and Africa by Paradigm Art, Larissa Goldston Gallery, Cais Gallery, Hyundai Gallery, Projects United, Smack Mellon, Icebox, Zone D and many others. Her work has been exhibited in various museums, such as The Michigan Museum of Contemporary Art (US), Museum on the Seam (Israel), Daelim Museum (Korea), Averoff Museum (Greece) and is represented in important private and corporate collections as well as public institutions. The public debut of her recent experimentation with sound took place at a group show at the Convent of St Cecilia in New York in 2011 with the synopsis of Breathing with the Room.
