JOHN JOSEPH TALLEUR, KANSAS, ILLINOISJOHN JOSEPH TALLEUR, KANSAS, ILLINOIS (1925-2001), ADAM AND EVE, 1952, ETCHING, 30 1/2”H X 26”WJohn Joseph Talleur, Kansas, Illinois, (1925-2001) Adam and Eve, 1952, etching Titled and numbered (3/18) lower left, signed lower right. Biography from the Archives of askART: The following information is from Rick Yarnell, Director of Business Operations at the Lawrence Art Center, Lawrence, Kansas. "John Joseph James Talleur, died on Nov. 27, 2001, at age 76, in Lawrence, Kansas. He was a retired professor (emeritus) of printmaking at The University of Kansas where he had taught for 40 years. He earned a bachelor's degree from the Institute of Art in Chicago and a master's degree from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa. Before his death he arranged to give his printmaking equipment, including his personal presses, to the Lawrence Arts Center that was, at the time, constructing its new building at 940 New Hampshire St. in Lawrence. The Printmaking studio in the Arts Center is named in his honor." "It was with some degree of trepidation that Talleur accepted a teaching job in a small college town in Kansas. He had no idea where Lawrence was when he was called for interview, according to his daughter, Ann Talleur. "He told me that he had to look it up on a map. He arrived by train and was met at the station by a KU professor dressed in a cowboy hat and boots," Ann Talleur said. "This was his first impression of the place."
