This is a bust from a well known model by Picault. It is part of a series of figures he sought to represent from the Middle Ages, this capturing a young Scholar. With frontal plaque that reads "Escholier 14 siecle 1350" and with second plaque on its right side that reads: "A. Monsieur Serrassaint. Le conseil des prud hommes 1924". CIRCA: Early 20th Century. This is a patinated bronze figurine of a roman soldier, draped in lion skin, evoking the skin of the Lion of Nemea worn by Heracles. Beneath his long sword is a fallen shield inscribed "Honor Patria" which translates to honor homeland. It is inscribed "E. Picault" and includes a frontal plaque on base that reads: "Le Devoir Par E. Picault".
CIRCA: Late 19th-Early 20th Century.
ORIGIN: France.
