Anglo-Dutch School painting, portrait of a nobleman wearing a ruff collar, satin jacquard jacket, silver belt and holding a pair of gloves, apparently unsigned, oil on canvas, possibly 17th or 18th century, 44-1/2 x 34 in.; 18th century carved and formerly gilt wood Salvator Rosa frame. Restored in 1948 at which time the signature and date were found, restretched on new stretcher, lined with wax and resin, crackle, abrasions above proper right ear, craquelure, stretcher marks, retouch throughout background, some at hands, hair, jacket, not in face and other important areas, up to 40 percent of surface affected; frame resurfaced, abrasions.
